It was all she could do not to let him have it.... RUNNING FROM SHADOWS #8Sunday #YAPNR #unicorns



Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows!

Follow Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton "Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.
 ****
(Set-up) Greta runs away from her surprise engagement partthrough the woodsPax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn! 
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. He tells her that the shadow has fed on her emotions. And that it's definitely someone she knows. And she must under no circumstance confront it because it will kill her. And don't get emotional about anything! >.< Pax offers to drive Greta home. She asks him to drop her off halfway down her driveway; otherwise, her mom would freak more...

He obliged. “Wait here.”

“Why? Where are you—”

He hopped out of the car and came around to my side. “I know you can walk, but I don’t want to hear you complain about the rocks hurting your feet.”

Me, complain?

I wanted to say something smart-mouthed back, but at the last second held my tongue.

The heat of his gaze burning through my resolve.... RUNNING FROM SHADOWS #8Sunday #YAPNR #unicorns



Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows!

The drive was uncomfortable, to say the least. If he had something to say, he should’ve just said it. Instead, he glanced every so often in my direction. The heat of his gaze burning through my resolve. Finally, I turned away, stared out into the darkness and hoped when I woke up tomorrow this would all have been a horrible dream. Maybe not the meeting-my-guardian part, but the rest I could definitely live without.

I asked Paxton to park halfway down my winding driveway. Goddess only knew what Mom would do if she heard his Jeep.

Working it out…
  • (My novella...) Currently working on round number 2 of edits with a January 1st deadline! The anthology is scheduled to release early next year!
  • (Holidays) Almost done Christmas shopping! Hubs did the wrapping, of course--cause we all know Banshee's can't wrap. I did, however, rock as a demon tape dispenser! :P

Longing - Chapter 1 (snippet #25)... 


Taylor couldn’t start following Zoe on Twitter. Could she? No, she couldn’t allow herself that indulgence, listening to her read was guilty pleasure enough. Besides, if she did, she would learn things about Zoe that would make it even more difficult to say goodbye in the end. If Taylor never had her, she could never lose her.

Palming the phone in her pocket, Taylor forced herself to start walking. She took one step and looked into the playroom. Zoe had stopped reading. She pulled her legs up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, watching as the children played.

The kindness of the girl nearly brought Taylor to her knees. She wanted desperately to be Zoe’s rock. To comfort her, hold her, kiss her. No, she wouldn’t allow herself to feel these things.

Claws of ice began to scrape through her mind. The beast grew restless inside of her. Soon it would demand a sacrifice. Taylor tried to think of calming things, Zoe’s melodious voice, a cup of steaming Jasmine tea, and an hour of indulging herself in Zoe’s reading time with the children.

She squeezed her eyes shut and pinched the bridge of her nose. Ridiculous. She couldn’t live in this dream world. Not anymore. To continue coming here, listening to Zoe, longing to know her was only teasing Taylor with a fantasy that could never happen.

Lost in her thoughts, Taylor didn’t notice Zoe shift toward the door. The beautiful girl lifted her fingers in a wave, keeping her arms coiled to her knees. Pain etched its mark across her crinkled brow, yet she offered a gentle smile. Heat rushed down Taylor’s spine in a frenzy of flames, melting the frozen beast within.

“Hi,” Zoe spoke in the cadence that could bring a dragon to its knees.

Random Alert! Alert. Alert. Alert...
Two and a half hours of work, right here! O.o

Had a great time with the hubs at his work holiday party at the Air and Space Museum on Saturday! We sat with his boss and wife and they were so much fun to talk to. We were there for over five hours, but it totally didn't feel like it! Except...for the last hour or so my butt went totally numb cos of the tiny, uncomfortable chairs :P

Set-up (last week)... Greta runs away from her surprise engagement partthrough the woodsPax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn! 
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. He tells her that the shadow has fed on her emotions. And that it's definitely someone she knows. And she must under no circumstance confront it because it will kill her. And don't get emotional about anything! >.< Pax offers to drive Greta home. A coyote cries and Pax says he could kill it in five seconds flat. And, of course, holds her tighter...

At the Jeep, he gently let me down with a warning to be careful since the rocks were sharp. He still had one arm around my waist as he opened the passenger side door. Despite the chilly night air and my lack of shoes or jacket, heat rushed over me. This boy’s touch did things to me… Hot things. Familiar things.

I decided not to look at him as I climbed into the car in case he offered me his hand, tried to help me in. A girl could only restrain herself so much, and the last thing I needed was a boy complicating my life.

Immortality plus mortality would never equal forever... #LONGING Doin' Midweek Mayhem #likeaboss!

Working it out…
  • (My novella...) First round of edits are with my editor! I won't lie...they were intense and I cut/rewrote A LOT, but I think it's going to be a much better story for it. The anthology is scheduled to release early next year!
  • (Holidays) So, erm, for the past two weeks I've lived online...buying all the gifts O.o Thank goodness for Amazon Prime!! This was me when I realized Christmas was only 13 days away...

Life meant something different to Taylor. For her it had no end. For Zoe, the end could be at any moment. Cold realization settled into Taylor’s bones. Even if Zoe was healthy, they could never be together. Immortality plus mortality would never equal forever. “Yeah, it is,” she said through numb lips. What else could she say? Taylor couldn’t compete with death.

Donna pushed off the wall and started toward the nurse’s station but stopped and turned back around. “What’s that app y’all kids are always sending text messages on?”

Taylor shrugged.

“You know, the one with the blue bird.” Donna shoved her hands into her pockets.

“Twitter?”

“Yeah, that’s it. She just got an account today. She’s lonely. She could really use a friend.” After administering a shot of guilt, Donna strode to her cluttered workspace and started entering data into her computer.
