We were so close…Too close. But the darkness around us kept me within arm’s reach of my guardian. A blanket of clouds shrouded the moon, obscuring the light, and I shivered.

The key made a tiny snick as it slid out the lock then Paxton turned, bumping into me. He managed to get an arm around me before I could tumble down the stairs; guess he hadn’t expected me to be standing so close. He made a low guttural sound and snatched me up into his arms again.

“I can walk, you know,” I huffed. If he could be annoyed, I could be dramatic.

Tune in next week for more angsty spooky goodness!

  1. Awesome snippet! The chemistry between them is fairly sparking! love the last line too!

  2. No, no, silly girl, LET him carry you (swoon)....Pax is so dreamy. Ah well, probably her reaction is more realistic for her character LOL. Great 8!

  3. That last line made me grin. Spoken like a smitten girl in denial! lol Nice writing, Karen! :-)

  4. He's definitely not helping her tamp down her emotions.

  5. I love that last line too - perfect attitude for a teenage girl!

  6. Yeah, I don't think he's really annoyed. I think he's feeling something else. :)
