Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows!
Follow
Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton
"Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark
secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.

(Set-up) Greta runs away from her surprise engagement party through the woods. Pax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn!
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. He tells her that the shadow has fed on her emotions. And that it's definitely someone she knows. And she must under no circumstance confront it because it will kill her. And don't get emotional about anything! >.< Pax offers to drive Greta home. She has all the feels for him but doesn't want this boy complicating her life...

The drive was uncomfortable, to say the least. If he had something to say, he should’ve just said it. Instead, he glanced every so often in my direction. The heat of his gaze burning through my resolve. Finally, I turned away, stared out into the darkness and hoped when I woke up tomorrow this would all have been a horrible dream. Maybe not the meeting-my-guardian part, but the rest I could definitely live without.
I asked Paxton to park halfway down my winding driveway. Goddess only knew what Mom would do if she heard his Jeep.
Tune in next week for more angsty spooky goodness!
Thanks again for stopping by! Your support and feedback is greatly appreciated!

Is he going to stay with her and hide in her bedroom to protect her? Or sleep in the garden? She should have stay hidden, anything can be waiting for her at home.
ReplyDeleteYour heroine just comes across as such a real teenager to me, even in the midst of this wild life crisis - very well done! Excellent excerpt...
ReplyDeleteHer fears are so justified and real even in extraordinary circumstances. Well done.
ReplyDeleteJust like a teen worried what Mom thinks about everything. Terrific eight with excellent imagination.
ReplyDeleteExcellent eight again!
ReplyDeleteGood work. I could really feel the tension of the scene.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking she should not walk down that driveway alone. Great eight, Karen!
ReplyDeleteBut what's Mom already think about her running away from her party?
ReplyDeleteAnother great eight, Karen. I'm loving this story.
ReplyDeleteI agree, she sounds like a "typical" teen-ager and that lends authenticity, very well done. I can't help but think "something" dire is waiting for her in the driveway.
