“The shadow or the demon?” He lifted a brow.

“Both, I guess.”

“The shadow won’t hurt you. It’s how the demon lets the others know they can’t have you.”

“And the demon?” I picked at the hangnail. Screw it.

5 STAR Review for Terms & Conditions Apply by Pippa Jay!! #bookreview #Goodreads

Cover art by Danielle Fine
Terms & Conditions Apply by Pippa Jay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Terms & Conditions Apply was a fun and sexy short story with an excellent twist ending! Marie, the heroine, is stranded on a pleasure planet after her boyfriend never shows up for their romantic weekend getaway. She’s beyond ticked off. Waiting for the next transport home, she’s approached by an android. Soren, the hero, might not be human but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have feelings, dreams and emotions. He approaches Marie—sees how alone and sad she is—and is determined to fulfill her dreams. She’s hesitant to take him up on his offer to stay on the planet, not only because of being dumped but he’s not a real man. Despite being beyond gorgeous, how can a robot make her feel loved and wanted?

In a world where any fantasy can be reality…sometimes love has a price.

If you’re looking for a quick sci-fi read with a romantic element, this is the book for you! Loved how the heroine grew and changed throughout the story. And the ending… Wow! Definitely took me by surprise. Having read several of Pippa’s works, I love the way she blends science fiction with romance to create memorable characters that keep you turning the pages. A fantastic story!

A few of my favorite lines…

What business was it of theirs what she did? Freedom of choice was supposed to be the station’s credo.

Hades forbid anyone should ask her what was wrong.

For Marie, it was like someone carving out her heart with a blunt instrument.

Oh, please, she told herself, it’s not as if it’s a real man. Just a copy of one!

Why did she keep treating him like a prostitute instead of the man she believed she could see?

For a moment she forgot what he was. He felt human and alive.

  • Read last week's snippet here :)
  • This is an unedited teaser for you (one of the two heroine's POV--Taylor, the "blonde goddess," is kind of like a female Dexter). This snippet is right after Taylor has read a text from her love interest..

Warmth spread inside of her. The thought of seeing her love made her smile. Those were hard to come by. All too soon her joy shattered as the beast inside of her began to whisper tauntingly. Always with the still small voice to begin with. Then suddenly the murmur would turn into a roar. Not stopping until appeased.

She squeezed her eyes shut, gripped the steering wheel and tried to concentrate on the flood of warmth coming from the vents. Even with her eyes closed, the beast’s need grew more urgent. Couldn’t she have just this one happiness? A moment to enjoy and remember without it being corrupted by murderous temptation.

For the past six months the hunger had intensified. Her father’s list of acceptable victims dwindled from the rate at which the beast forced her to kill.

The crescendo of her anxiety peaked as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony began to play. She peeled open her eyes and answered her phone.

Christmas and Witch Way to Turn... What do they have in common? Click to find out! Go on, you wanna ;) #YAPNR

Hello, my darlings! The answer... They are both AWESOME. Just sayin' :)
Ohh and by the way...  It's Christmas Eve!! Are you ready??  Quick, quick! Hurry, hurry! Santa and his reindeer will be landing on your roof before you know it! But first, I wanted to share a Christmas memory with you...

I love Christmas! It’s such a magical time, especially Christmas Eve. As a child I’d get so excited about Christmas Day that going to sleep the night before was pretty much impossible. I’d lie in bed daydreaming about reindeer clomping on the roof of the house and wondering how Santa would get inside since we didn’t have a chimney. I still get really excited on Christmas Eve. There’s just something about the anticipation of Christmas Day, spending time with those we love and hoping for snow.

One of my fave Christmas memories was the first year my hubby and I moved into our house in Virginia (see pic). We picked out a tree together, listened to Christmas music and decorated the tree while our pup, named Rusty, tried to pull all the ornaments down. lol It was fun! We didn’t spend Christmas Day at our house though because we traveled back to North Carolina to see family. This year, however, will be the first Christmas we actually wake up in our own house. We don’t have a tree this year because we traveled a lot this month, but we do have the Christmas cards out, the small LED tree on the mantel and a holiday flavored air freshener making the entire house smell like frosted cranberries. teehee

So I’m totally ready to wake up Christmas Day in my own house, cook a delicious breakfast with the hubby, exchange gifts, go to the movie theatre to see The Hobbit, and then just relax. Oh, and the cooking breakfast part will probably be more like me watching the hubby cook while I drink coffee. *winks*

Merry Christmas, everyone, and have a Happy New Year!!

(Last week) Set-up... Greta's shadow is frozen, and her calm is beginning to waiver. Okay, okay, she's on the verge of a freak out!
Cover Art by Danielle Fine
“Because that shadow isn’t yours. The demon replaced yours with one of its own.”

My heart started racing and my knees locked...Great.

I was officially afraid of my own shadow. What was next...checking under my bed before I went to sleep at night? “Will it hurt me?”

Well, will it? Tune in next week for more Greta and Pax to find out!! ;)

  • Read last week's snippet here :)
  • This is an unedited teaser for you (one of the two heroine's POV--Zoe Moore, the raven-haired beauty with a gazillion neuroses). This snippet is right after she sees her love interest with someone else...

Something overheated inside of Zoe. Her world of color dulled. The already cloudy day dimmed even more until everything was gray and white. This time the skin on the back of her hands didn’t just flicker to what might possibly be scales… They were scales. Black and rigid.

The wheel slipped from her grip as fingers melded together and turned into talons on each claw, ripping through the leather of the steering wheel. Shit! She slammed on the brake and braced for the impact of the car behind her. What else could she do? Take some damage in the back or collide smack into on-coming traffic.

No jolt forward, just an ungodly loud horn and the screech of tires. She opened her eyes just as the driver of a Toyota Camry threw the bird at her.

Her breath came quick and hard. Puffs of smoke billowed out. Her body quivered and burned. She had to cool down.

Somehow she had to make this go away. This… She stared with gray and white horror at her…her claws. And what the hell was wrong with her vision? This couldn’t be happening. How was it even possible?

The air-conditioning was already on; she never turned it off. Shoving the hideous scaly things in front of the vents, she waited. Tried to hold her breath. Stop the smoke puffs from escaping. No use. They pushed out of her nose. Hell. She’d have smudges everywhere.

Are you losing your mind? Who gives a flying freak about smoke? Your hands are claws and you can’t see color!
