I could kill it in five seconds flat. *swoons* Ohh Pax! RUNNING FROM SHADOWS #8Sunday #YAPNR #unicorns

Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows!

Follow Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton "Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.
Set-up (last week)... Greta runs away from her surprise engagement partthrough the woodsPax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn!
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. He tells her that the shadow has fed on her emotions. And that it's definitely someone she knows. And she must under no circumstance confront it because it will kill her. And don't get emotional about anything! >.< Pax offers to drive Greta home. And now he's picked her up, but she's annoyed and tells him she can walk...

“Never said you couldn’t.” He didn’t look at me, just kept walking to the white Jeep parked in the driveway.

“Well then, why are you carrying me?”

“You were in the way.” He looked at me this time and I could’ve sworn I saw a hint of a smile.

The cry of a coyote in the distance made me tense. I instinctively wrapped my arms tighter around his neck.

“I could kill it in five seconds flat,” he said, but also tightened his hold on me.

Tune in next week for more angsty spooky goodness!

  1. Nice! What a hero and a hunk! I loved his quip that he could kill it in five seconds flat! You've written a great character, Karen! :-)

  2. Super good with a strong hero. Nice writing, Karen.

  3. Ah, the Coyote is just doing his job...getting her to snuggle deeper into his arms : ) No need to kill it.

  4. I take it he can do more than grow a horn on his forehead? Like sharp hooves?

  5. I do love Pax. Lucky her, having such a protector! Terrific snippet as always...

  6. I like the relaxed tone of the conversation, it draws the reader in. Great 8.
