Never forget...the Red Forest is dangerous. RUNNING FROM SHADOWS #8Sunday #YAPNR #unicorns

Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows!

Follow Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton "Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.

 ****

(Read last week's post. Set-up) Greta runs away from her surprise engagement party through the woods. Pax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn! 
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. He tells her that the shadow has fed on her emotions. And that it's definitely someone she knows. And she must under no circumstance confront it because it will kill her. And don't get emotional about anything! >.< Pax takes Greta home. Now, she has to face...her mother! Only Aunt Lil greets  and wraps a blanket around her shoulders.

“Gretal, don’t worry; I calmed your mom down. We told the others you weren’t feeling well, and they didn’t stay too long afterward.”

Who was I kidding? I didn’t want them to worry. “Thanks,” I said, my forehead didn’t feel as tense anymore, but the balloon hadn’t gotten any smaller. She squeezed my hands and sat next to me, her shoulder pressed against mine. “I’m glad you’re okay. Even though you know it wasn’t smart to go into the Red Forest at night.”

Taylor tweeted, ABBA, huh? They’re gr8. Concise. Not at all stalkerish. Seconds hung in the air. She’d already begun to prepare herself for no response when the LED flashed on her phone. She swiped it on to find a tweet from Zoe. Totally! What’s your favorite song?

@ABBAfan The 1s that feature Anni-Frid cos her voice is sexy.

@TaylorSinclair LOL yeah, I can see that ;)

@ABBAfan What’s ur fave? Taylor asked.

@TaylorSinclair Hmm…tossup between Voulez Vous and Mamma Mia :)

Taylor stared at the tongue emoticon on the screen. She closed her eyes and pictured Zoe actually sticking her tongue out with her beautiful blue eyes shining and her brow slightly crinkled. For a heartbeat, Taylor couldn’t believe this was happening. Staring at her phone, she thought of Zoe teasing her.

@ABBAfan Me 2. Normally heavy metal or classical tho. ABBA is my only inbetween music

@TaylorSinclair Now THAT’S a difference ;) I’m not really into classical, but I like Metallica. Sandman is my favorite!

Taylor debated whether or not to reply, but decided against it. She would leave the contact up to Zoe now. If she tweeted her, Taylor would respond, but if she didn’t then it was for the best anyway, right? Finding Beauty on Twitter had to break some kind of ethical rule, since Taylor’s father was her doctor. Perhaps not, but it was suspect. Even if it was, it didn’t matter. She cradled the phone in her hands and stared at Zoe’s avatar. They’d just had their first conversation.

Nerves kept me on the edge of the couch. Panic swelled in my stomach like a balloon. Mom had done this to me—put me in this hellish situation—and here I sat with guilt clawing at my insides. What did I have to feel bad about? Yeah, sure, I’d run off and hadn’t called. Aunt Lil had looked really upset when she saw me. But dammit, I’d just got marked by a demon and practically saw a unicorn. She could get over herself.

Longing - Chapter 1 (snippet #29)... 

Finally she typed in Zoe Moore. Several different Zoe’s were listed. Taylor scrolled through them until she came to the photo of a dark-haired girl. She clicked the picture to enlarge it. Heat seeped through her icy veins as she looked at the bright-eyed girl. Her picture must not be recent because a rosy glow kissed Zoe’s pale cheeks and sunlight danced shiny streaks through her dark hair. A smile played at her mouth, but her lips didn’t part. 

Taylor reluctantly backed out of the picture, returned to the list of tweets and clicked follow. Just staring at Zoe’s picture, without having spoken to her or at least gotten a follow back, felt wrong somehow. Would she even follow Taylor? If she didn’t, it would be for the best. This wasn’t a Disney movie, Beauty and the Beast could never be together.
Not even a minute later, the phone vibrated in Taylor’s hand. She jerked and gripped her cell tighter, nearly crushing it in her palm. A notification. Forcing herself not to be too excited—the message could be from anyone—she tapped the screen. 

@ABBAfan followed her. 

Zoe liked the Swedish pop group? Taylor had never met anyone close to her own age who liked ABBA as much as her.

• The Numerous Risks of Dating Lorna Perkins by Alexander Oladokun. FIVE stars! LOVED this book! Such a fun, quick YA contemporary read. The story is in male POV and was delightful and a breath of fresh air.
• Stolen by Lucy Christopher. Can I give this TEN STARS, please? Amazing book! I've never been so drawn to a villain before. Like, to the point where I was totally falling for him. OMG! Right? Sooo good!

Demon pups do NOT care for snow...at least not at first. They are delicate/hot-natured creatures! ;)

Have y'all seen these before? They're supposed to be the best ballet flats eva! Even Oprah recommended them :) Info on Tieks.

They are very bendy! They're definitely comfy, but I'm not sure if they're right for me cos I have high arches. Gonna give them a bit more time before I send 'em back.

Great...just great.

The wind chimes rang as I thought about my choices; except, essentially, I only had one. Face her.

I knocked and waited, but not for long. A couple seconds later Aunt Lil opened the door and crushed me in a tight embrace, her cold hands making me shiver again.

 “Gretal, thank the Goddess you’re all right. We were so worried.”
