Longing - Chapter 2 (snippet #37)...

“I don’t understand.” The woman’s eyes were wide as she searched the room, looking for an exit.

Taylor bit her lip, hoping to stop the transformation. Hoping to not give in to the beast’s terrifying need. This was not who she wanted to be. Yet, she knew she could never be anything different. There was no hope.

Then why must you fight me so? the beast cooed in her mind.

“Because this is wrong,” she growled.

The vet abandoned her escape search and focused on Taylor. “What are you going to do to me?”

Allow me to answer that, you worthless excuse for life, the beast mocked as it claimed her. Her body quivered violently and she fell to her knees.

“First, I shall pluck each and every hair from your head while you scream. I will drink in your cries and savor them for you will not have many left. When I slice through your delicate flesh, I will lick the blood as it flows freely onto my tongue.” The beast stretched Taylor’s arms out, and she watched as they shook and talons began to emerge.

The woman began to shriek. She pushed off the ground and ran.

An excited rumble formed in Taylor’s chest as the beast began to roar. Taylor forced her eyes closed and the beast took a deep breath, devouring the fear in the air.

“I should warn you, there is no escape, but by all means, do try.” The beast fought for full control of Taylor’s mind. She held it off as long as she could, but this was her curse.

A Long Time Coming by Heather Van Fleet!! This is a NA contemporary read. It's the second in her Perfect Timing series, and I love these characters!! They are so real and believable.

At first I thought I was looking for a dragon...but hint: It's not a dragon ;) So sweet.

Longing - Chapter 2 (snippet #36)...

The lights flickered as she walked across the enormous six-story warehouse. Like a gymnasium, it took a few minutes for the light to be fully functional. There were no windows, so it was the only way for her to see until her beast took over. She stalked forward with silent bare feet. Slicing pain cut under the surface of her skin. She pushed up her sleeve and rubbed her forearm. Thick, calloused scales formed underneath. The vet groaned drowsily, rousing, and the beast grew excited. Taylor quickly threw off the robe and watched as knife-like, scales burst free all over her naked body.

The vet rubbed her eyes. “Whaa? Where am I?” She looked directly at Taylor. “Oh my God, what are you doing? Who are you?”

Hearing the panic—so close to the surface—fueled the beast’s desire. “Atonement.” The word came out in Taylor’s confident voice, but it wasn’t her who said it.

The Best Laid Plans by Tamara Mataya. A sexy, adult short story! Finished it! 5 Stars! Loved how real the characters were and how their back-stories made the book so strong. Even though it's an erotic romance, it has a great anti-bullying and forgiveness message.

Longing - Chapter 2 (snippet #35)...

The vet padded into the hallway and spotted her intruder too late. She started to scream, but Taylor grabbed her around the waist and expertly stuck the needled into her neck. The cry drowned with her drowsiness and the phone slipped from her hand, clanking on the hardwood.

The body went limp in Taylor’s arms. She slid the vet to the floor, propping her against the wall. Now the only thing that remained: pull inside the garage, collect the body and feed the beast.

Anticipation creaked through her bones and gnawed at her insides. While she waited for the vet to wake up, she walked to the small locker room in the far corner of the empty warehouse. Neatly, she folded her jeans, hung up her blouse, removed her undergarments and slipped on a thick-plush robe. She would absolutely not destroy couture, she wasn’t an animal.

Synching the tie on her robe, she glanced at the Jimmy Choo box on the floor where she had carefully put her boots. She couldn’t help but wonder what style of shoes Zoe wore. Taylor had actually never seen her in shoes, normally always sock-feet or vampire-bunny bedroom slippers. Those always made her giggle. Zoe had a quirky personality, and it was sexy.

A pang shot through her stomach, and Taylor pushed thoughts of the beauty out of her mind. The beast needed to be sated, and she didn’t want it getting any ideas about Zoe.

Longing - Chapter 2 (snippet #34)...

“I promise to be really quick,” the beast continued to lie. Taylor could feel her feature contort into a pout. A prisoner trapped inside of her own body. She wanted to scream. To tell this woman to run. Even though the vet had committed enough bad deeds to land her on the list, Taylor didn’t enjoy this. The hunt. And then ultimately, the kill.

“Um,” she ran her fingers through her ponytail, “okay, but you’ll have to make it quick.”

Taylor nodded. “I will.”

“One sec. Wait here.” The vet closed the door.

Taylor counted three beats, and then checked the handle. Unlocked. She quietly pushed it open and stepped inside, being careful to close the door without a sound. The entry stretched into a narrow hallway with an oak staircase to the left. The house had a lived-in-for-decades feel to it, complete with old-house smell. In the distance, floorboards creaked. Taylor backed against the wall, so that the vet wouldn’t see her as she rounded the corner. She reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a syringe. The footsteps echoed in the small hallway now. Just a little closer.
