Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows!

Follow Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton "Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.
(Read last week's post. Set-up) Greta runs away from her surprise engagement partthrough the woodsPax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn!
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. He tells her that the shadow has fed on her emotions. And that it's definitely someone she knows. And she must under no circumstance confront it because it will kill her. And don't get emotional about anything! >.< Pax takes Greta home. Now, she has to face...her mother! Thank goodness Aunt Lil is still there.

“I didn’t sell you.” Mom shook her head. “You wouldn’t understand.”

“Why not?” Okay, so maybe no money had changed hands—that I knew of—but I had reason to be more than a little miffed. “Try me.”

“Hun, someday you’ll understand. Right now you need to trust me.”

Tune in next week for more angsty spooky goodness!

  1. Oh the deep dark secret just adds to the story. And mom still won't say. I'd be pissed too. Every snippet there's a new layer. Well done!

  2. Multi-layered stories are the best. Twists and turns every few pages keeps the reader intrigued. Good job, Karen..

  3. Mom's asking for a lot at the moment! But it will be fascinating to find out why she did what she did. Great snippet!

  4. Can't blame her for finding trust a little hard to come by. Great tension!!

  5. Can Greta trust anyone at this point? Dare she?

  6. Just trust me'uh! Oh, these snippets keep drawing me back, week after week!

  7. I wonder if her mother knows something about what's going on, and the choice of marriage is supposed to protect Greta somehow...

Lots of interesting questions this raises!
