Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows!

Follow Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton "Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.
(Read last week's post. Set-up) Greta runs away from her surprise engagement partthrough the woodsPax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn!
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. He tells her that the shadow has fed on her emotions. And that it's definitely someone she knows. And she must under no circumstance confront it because it will kill her. And don't get emotional about anything! >.< Pax takes Greta home. Now, her mother wants to discuss the betrothal. And she brings up Greta's father...

When she didn’t answer, I glared at her, hands on hips. “So what if he didn’t practice magick? Who cares?”

After another long pause, she said, “It may not seem important right now, but your differences will drive you apart.”

“Seriously? Lame, Mom. We don’t even know for sure that’s why he left.” My voice began to level out.

Tune in next week for more angsty spooky goodness!

Thanks again for stopping by! Your support and feedback is greatly appreciated!

  1. Seriously? Lame mom....I am so glad my daughters never said that to me. I have heard it uttered often though by her friends : ) Always look forward to your post!

  2. Oh mine have said "Lame, Mom" to me LOL. You really capture the voice of the teenager! Excellent excerpt...

  3. Another candidate for the shadow demon?

  4. If it's a big enough difference, maybe her mom is right. She seems to be forgetting you need to have a variety of things in common--and actually like (or at least be able to tolerate) each other.

  5. You are really doing a good job writing this in a teenager's voice! Congrats on signing with an agency! Woot! Downright wonderful!

  6. Exciting news about signing with an agency. Interesting story, Karen with family ties and complications.
