If only this day would end... RUNNING FROM SHADOWS #8Sunday #YAPNR #unicorns

Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows!

Follow Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton "Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.
(Read last week's post. Set-up) Greta runs away from her surprise engagement partthrough the woodsPax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn!
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. He tells her that the shadow has fed on her emotions. And that it's definitely someone she knows. And she must under no circumstance confront it because it will kill her. And don't get emotional about anything! >.< Pax takes Greta home. Now, her mother wants to discuss the betrothal and her father. Greta just needs for this day to be over...

I’d have to fight this battle some other time if I planned on winning.

“Greta, I only want what’s best for you; I promise.” She released the clip from her hair and clasped it around two fingers. Opening and closing it, she cleared her throat. A dainty cough that meant she had more to say but wouldn’t. Even if she knew she’d messed up she wouldn’t back down. Not my mom; never. “When Reed came to me with the contract...I couldn’t say no.”

Tune in next week for more angsty spooky goodness!

Thanks again for stopping by! Your support and feedback is greatly appreciated!

  1. Love the detail of the Mom playing with her hair clip - terrific snippet!

  2. Umm...yes you could say no. Do what's best for your kid...let her live her life : ).

  3. Nice! And congrats on your news about the agent! Have fun at RT.

  4. Uh oh! She has the details spelled out in a contract already?? This is bad!

Wonderful details, Karen. I like the fidgety hesitation. That spoke volumes about her mom and this scene. :-)

I didn't post this week. Just out reading snippets. Have a great week! :-)

  5. So this was Reed's idea, hmm? Interesting...

I love the detail of her playing with the clip, too. It shows how uneasy her mom is with the whole thing, focusing her nervous energy on something small as if it will make things better.

  6. "...don't get emotional about anything." Ha! Love it. I really like your website too. Nice and clean. :) Just stoped by to say thanks in advance for being a judge in Query Kombat.
