(Read last week's post) Set-up... Pax has told Greta that he's a unicorn. A unicorn!!! So, of course, Greta is all: sure, yeah, whatever... Prove it! Pax is stubborn, so he says he won't shift into his full monoceros form, but he shows her his horn and... Holy. Crap. She can barely believe what she's seeing.

That day at the tree house, had I really seen…
Taking a deep breath, he let it out slowly and dragged a hand through his thick golden hair. “The name unicorn is how we’ve kept our true nature and work a secret.”
“How?”
“Most people think sunshine and rainbows when they hear unicorn. But monoceri are hunters of the shadow, slayers of darkness and guardians of witches.” He was babbling on like he didn’t have something protruding out of his head.
Get it together, Greta.

He's right. Unicorns are always thought harmless. Apparently that's not quite true. I'd never call Pax 'harmless!" Great 8!

Somehow I can't see this unicorn laying his head in a maiden's lap for hunters to catch.

ReplyDeleteHmm, I've always had a soft spot for unicorns, but I'm not sure how I'd react to a guy telling me he was one. Thought provoking snippet ;)
