I'd rather face the shadow demon... RUNNING FROM SHADOWS #8Sunday #YAPNR #unicorns

Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows!

Follow Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton "Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.
 ****
(Read last week's post. Set-up) Greta runs away from her surprise engagement partthrough the woodsPax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn!
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. He tells her that the shadow has fed on her emotions. And that it's definitely someone she knows. And she must under no circumstance confront it because it will kill her. And don't get emotional about anything! >.< Pax drives Greta home. He leaves but not without saying he won't be far...watching ;)

I nodded and picked my shoes up off the dewy grass, where I’d slung them earlier. Forcing myself to breathe deeply, I climbed the stairs and walked to the door.

Right now, I’m pretty sure I’d rather face the shadow demon.

What were the chances Mom had gone to bed? Probably not good considering her only child had run off into the night hours ago without as much as a phone call.

I glanced behind me for one last look at the slayer of darkness. He stood in the shadows now, still watching. I smoothed my palms on the side of the dress, opened the screen door slowly—so it wouldn’t creak—and turned the doorknob.

Tune in next week for more angsty spooky goodness!

Thanks again for stopping by! Your support and feedback is greatly appreciated!

  1. She's an uber teen. What happens next? Foreboding galore in this eight.

  2. Ooh, lots of foreboding stuff. And making her scared and she can't react emotionally? Eeek!

  3. Yes, Mom is going to be upset - unless you're going to throw a twist at us! Can't wait to find out the next developments. Great snippet!

  4. :-) Nice scene! I'm 54 years old, and it put me in the scene, sneaking in late trying not to make a sound! Haha! It also put me in the scene as the mom--somewhere in the house, worrying, listening. :-) Nicely done. You're writing a couple of really appealing characters, Karen. :-)

  5. Sounds like she's more worried about Mom than about the demon--at least at the moment.

  6. So awesome! Love the apprehension, and like Teresa, I can appreciate from a rebellious youth memory and as a parent of three daughters... : )

  7. Moms can be pretty scary--especially when you know you've done something wrong! I bet all her sneaking isn't going to help her get away with it.

  8. You make her character sound so real and so very much a teen, lol. Great snippet.
