Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows!

Follow Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton "Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.

 ****

Set-up (last week)... Greta runs away from her surprise engagement party through the woods. Pax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn! 
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. He tells her that the shadow has fed on her emotions. And that it's definitely someone she knows. And she must under no circumstance confront it because it will kill her. Geez, no pressure, right?

“Good...Just act normal. Stick with your routine. With one exception.” He arched a perfect brow.

Seriously? I could barely remember all the information he’d given me up to this point. “Which is?”

“Don’t get emotional about anything.”

But it was two years ago when Zoe received her first news of being passed over for a new heart, that Taylor’s fascination had been peaked. Zoe didn’t cry or curse or scream like so many did. No, she had tugged on the cuffs of her sweatshirt until they completely covered her small hands and attempted to console her mother. “It’ll happen for me,” she’d said. “Don’t worry, Mom. Let’s be thankful we have today.”

He made it to his feet, swaying slightly to the side, just as she reached out a hand to steady him. Her brows drifted together, her lips were pursed to kill. All sass and spice––the girl was straight up sex in a sweater dress. “And what is that supposed to mean?” She stood with her hands at her hips. David narrowed his eyes as her neckline slipped lower. He traced the edge with his gaze, wishing it was his fingers instead.

“It just means that you’re trying to mess with my head.”

She scoffed, pressing her hand over the dip of that crack he wanted to keep ogling. Damn. That was twice now in a span of two seconds that he imagined touching that very spot. This time though, he wasn’t thinking about using his hands… He sucked in a gasp and released a quiet groan at the thought. Yeah, he was in a shit ton of trouble with this girl.

But really though, what was new?

He leaned closer to me. I held my breath, waiting for him to touch me. Did he want to? If I scooted to the edge of the couch, my knees would touch his. Instead, I wrapped my hands around my knees and didn’t budge.

“Listen, whatever you do, don’t confront it. Even if you think you know who the demon is. It won’t think twice about killing you on the spot, if it feels its secret is threatened.”
