Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows!
Follow
Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton
"Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark
secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.

(Read last week's post. Set-up) Greta runs away from her surprise engagement party through the woods. Pax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn!
Pax tells her that the shadow has fed on her emotions. And that it's definitely someone she knows. And she must under no circumstance confront it because it will kill her. And don't get emotional about anything! >.< Now, her mother tells her Reed Clarkwell--Greta's shrink--suggested the marriage contract. She's gotta stay calm per Pax, and all she can do is think about it. Greta makes it to A Likely Story (the small bookstore where she works) to discover she's on the shift by herself...

Grammatical liberties were taken :)
At the counter, I dug out my Intro to Architecture book and started reading for my elected college course; no one cared if I did my homework during my shift. Besides, Sunday mornings in April dragged by, and new shipments only came in on Wednesdays…Not too much going on.
Within minutes, I felt calmer, smoothed out; houses and buildings were my go-to. When I drew them, I was in charge; I molded them…shaped them.
“Hey, I’ve got something for you.”
Paxton Craig stood in front of me, looking all hot and wild-eyed. Oh Goddess. Architecture forgotten, my protector’s name played on my teeth and tongue.
Tune in next week for more angsty spooky goodness!
Thanks again for stopping by! Your support and feedback is greatly appreciated!

ReplyDelete:-) "...all hot and wild-eyed" Nice! Good 8, Karen! Nice bit of character building.
ReplyDeleteEverybody has something that brings them calm--and the way she describes hers is very soothing. Now she just has to work on keeping her cool around Pax!
ReplyDeleteYay more Paxton I've been missing him...I like that she can self-soothe with her architecture. She was in the flow...great 8!
ReplyDeleteFrom cool to hot, just like that. Amazing how the right guy can do that to us. :) I love how this is moving. Great snippet!
ReplyDeletePresent time! Who cares about architecture! ;)
