Think about something else... Easier said than done. RUNNING FROM SHADOWS #8Sunday #YAPNR

Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows!

Follow Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton "Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.
 ****
(Read last week's post. Set-up) Greta runs away from her surprise engagement partthrough the woodsPax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn!
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. He tells her that the shadow has fed on her emotions. And that it's definitely someone she knows. And she must under no circumstance confront it because it will kill her. And don't get emotional about anything! >.< Pax takes Greta home. Now, her mother tells her Reed Clarkwell--Greta's shrink--suggested the marriage contract. She's gotta stay calm per Pax, and all she can do it lay in bed and THINK about it. This is too much!

Why had Creepwell gone to Mom with the contract?

Oh, great, much better.

I sighed and rolled over; surely all this had been an awful nightmare.

When I wake up I’ll start over…go for a run, go to work, do my homework and crash--business as usual.
I leaned over and checked the alarm clock. Its red glare read 6:30 AM. I had to be at work by nine-thirty. How had it gotten so late?

Tune in next week for more angsty spooky goodness!

Thanks again for stopping by! Your support and feedback is greatly appreciated!

  1. Liked the realism there. The brain always works overtime at night overthinking.
(Nothing for me this week. Revamping my blog.)

  2. Tiny bit confused me as 6:30 AM isn't late? Or does she get up normally at like 4:30AM LOL? I gather she was thinking so hard (which she does have a lot of problems, poor girl!) and she just fell asleep without realizing it? Enjoying the story!

  3. Poor thing...I'm guessing she didn't get any sleep last night, and now she's gonna have to get going to work soon! Yuck.

  4. Like it, because we've all been here (sleepless and frustrated).
One thing that I wondered - I've never been sleepless and thought that time has gone fast. Normally just the opposite: I look at the clock and think it must be almost morning, and it's only been five minutes since the last time I checked. The frustration is the same as you described though. For me it's always 3 - 4.30am, knowing that this is the most tired I'm going to be, and that in another hour or so I will be too alert to get any sleep, and the garbage truck will come banging down the road. The only time I feel a sense of urgency is when I fear that if I don't sleep soon then I will be useless the next day at work.
Keep up the good writing :)

  5. Coming in late, makes this one a little hard to follow, but I'm getting the feel that the main character has had a hard time sleeping after a tough time the night before. If it was all thought, I was confused by the italics that were applied to some sentences but not all. I get that the italicized is in present tense; however, I think it would be better to not pop back and forth between the thinking of the past and thoughts that are current. Does that make sense?

When she looks at the alarm clock, I'd like to see more tension in how it's gotten so late and what exactly that means to the character. Dr. Sylvester Fiction has a good point.

I'm curious as to what the contract is about, which makes me want to read further to find out. Thanks for sharing.
