Weekend Writing Warriors: He's a guy, and guys are trouble... RUNNING FROM SHADOWS #8Sunday

Thank you for stopping by. I'm excited to participate with such a fantastic group of writers! Check out other warriors here!

Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows, currently being read by a lovely agent!! Squee!!

Follow Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton "Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.
 ****
Set-up (last week)... Greta runs away from her surprise engagement partthrough the woodsPax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn!
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. Being around him gives her this weird deja-vu feeling. She wants to trust him, but he's a guy...and guys are trouble.

If they didn’t leave you, they morphed into rabid stalker types.

I had to keep my guard up with Paxton. I couldn’t handle another Bain. But I also didn’t want to lie to the person who’d saved my life tonight.

“I just found out I’m betrothed.”

He froze mid-sip and set his mug down. His expression was hard to read…Concerned? “Do you love him?”

Tune in next week to find out more!

Thanks again for stopping by! Your support and feedback is greatly appreciated!

  1. I was wondering there for a moment when I read the intro of her running from her engagement party and then not trusting men---an arranged marriage. So I'm thinking that's not going to work out after meeting this guy!

My only nit pick would be that I think the "C" in "concerned" should be lowercase as it is still part of the sentence.

Good luck with the agent thing!

  4. You pack a lot of punch in just a few short sentences! I love his reaction, and I wonder how she's feeling, having just found out she's betrothed!

  6. Great question! He has the way of going so straight at it.

  7. That's kind of a silly question--she said 'found out' she's betrothed not 'got' betrothed, or anything that implies she had any say in the arrangement...
But I guess you could be betrothed to some you knew and liked.
She's definitely got some boy problems! Nice snippet.

  9. Hmmm Why do I have the feeling Pax might end up busting some heads when all is said and done? Can't wait to see his reaction to this.
