Today I'm sharing from my (unpublished) young adult paranormal romance Running From Shadows, currently being read by a lovely agent!! Squee!! 

Follow Greta Shore (a 17-year-old, black-haired wiccan beauty) and Paxton "Pax" Craig (an 18-year-old, blond-haired college student with a dark secret) as they discover the fate of their forbidden love.

Set-up... Greta runs away from her surprise engagement party through the woods. Pax saves her from a shadow demon. Oh, and he's a unicorn! 
Back at Pax's cabin, Greta and Pax talk. She tells him one of her secrets. Now it's his turn...

Focusing on the coffee mug in my hands, I tapped the side. “Your turn.”

“I’ve already gone several rounds with the demon who marked you.”

I stopped tapping. Rounds...plural? How long had this thing been after me? Or, maybe it was trying to mark him too. “It’s been attacking you?”

I couldn’t help laughing, and it came out slightly hysterical. “Would I have been running into the woods, barefoot in a party dress if I did?”

“Good point.” He raked a hand through his hair, which showed off the tight muscles in his arm. The movement captured my attention. I wanted to feel those arms around me. 

Oh crap! I was staring again...

Goddess, help me.

If they didn’t leave you, they morphed into rabid stalker types. 

I had to keep my guard up with Paxton. I couldn’t handle another Bain. But I also didn’t want to lie to the person who’d saved my life tonight.

“I just found out I’m betrothed.”

He froze mid-sip and set his mug down. His expression was hard to read…Concerned? “Do you love him?”

Back at Pax's cabin in the woods, he asks her how she wants it. Er, um? ...coffee. That's all?! She's kinda disappointed :P

Trailing behind, I followed him into the brightly lit area and leaned against the green countertop while he poured our coffee, added cream to mine and left his black.

He handed a mug to me. “I only drink caffeinated.”

“No big. With everything going on, I doubt I could sleep tonight anyway.”

Paxton walked to the round wooden table in the middle of the kitchen and pulled out a chair for me before he plopped into the one next to mine.

I wrapped both hands around my coffee mug and let the warmth radiate through my body. “Why were you in the woods tonight?”

(Read last week's post) Set-up... Pax has told Greta that he's a unicorn. A unicorn!!! So, of course, Greta is all: sure, yeah, whatever... Prove it! Pax is stubborn, so he says he won't shift into his full monoceros form, but he shows her his horn. Has she had enough proof? Erm, yeah. She needs to find her words. Change the subject. Not think about his horn...

Hadn’t he mentioned slayers…witches? “So you know I’m a witch?”

He nodded and laughed, “Yeah.”

I could almost hear another duh in his voice. “All right, smarty, how did you know?” Without thinking, I playfully punched at his shoulder. But I missed because he saw it coming, grabbed my wrist and spun me around. One hand held my wrist and pressed my own arm against my chest, while his other arm wrapped firmly around my waist and crushed me to his body.

I nodded.

Yup, his horn wasn’t going anywhere unless he wanted it to. And then…it was gone. Retracted in less than a heartbeat. The skin of his forehead smooth again. Strong.

Furrowed, as he watched me.

Hmm, what's he thinking? And, so, uh now that she's seen it...you know she'll wanna see it again!
