Blurb:

School teacher Cassidy Sinclair’s sanity is questioned after claiming to see her hero appear out of thin air. Her savior dies in her arms after intercepting a gunshot meant for her and her student, Allan Branson. The only person who believes her account is the boy’s father who arranges her one-week stay at an exclusive holistic healing spa called the Wiccan Haus off the coast of Maine.

Trevor Green, a paranormal, is recovering—again—from gunshot wounds at Wiccan Haus. His body battered and his confidence broken, he is tasked to protect the woman he almost got killed. The one he’s fantasized about for months and who thinks he’s dead.

Excerpt:

“What happened?”

What happened? He inhaled a calming breath and counted to ten, aware that Cemil and Cyrus had joined Sage and were awaiting his answer. Well, not Cemil. He was just being polite. As a telepath, he’d already read Trevor’s thoughts.

“She was determined to come back here and I had to stop her.”

Cemil grinned. “The best you could come up with was decloaking her dead savior right in front of her?”

“Yeah,” he snarled, “it was.” Cassidy stirred in his arms and he tightened his hold keeping her close. He savored the innocent intimacy and hated himself for enjoying it.

Dana stood between the two elevators. “Your room or hers?”

“Hers.”

He nodded toward Sage as he waited for the third elevator, the one reserved for the humans. Somehow, these siblings had charmed the elevators so that only humans could use the one designated to go to the third floor and only Paranormals could use the second floor elevator. The first elevator was reserved for the siblings alone. No one knew where that one went.

“I could use a key to her room.”

“How will you get there?” Sage asked, though he was sure she knew the answer. As always, he would wait patiently, cloaked, for his opportunity.

“Don’t worry about me. Just get me the key. She’s not going to be an easy one to keep an eye on.” The elevator pinged and Dana escorted him to the third floor.

In the privacy of the elevator, he pressed his lips to her hair. She wouldn’t know, but he would remember the silky strands caressing his cheek during the long lonely nights.

He needed to concoct a believable explanation for materializing out of thin air without threatening her sanity. Or his secret.

Seizing Fate (Predetermined #2) Young adult Paranormal romance

Seizing Fate by Heather Van Fleet

Blurb:

And you thought Emmy’s life was a hot mess before…

Jack’s gone off to Arizona with his brother, but for how long? Emmy doesn’t have a clue. In his place, though, is Zachary. The whiny, miserable, alpha wolf–boy who is more than ready to take on the duty of her mate/boyfriend — if she’d let him, that is. But the last thing Emmy wants is to deal with a boy who believes that the world should fall solely at his feet whenever he demands it.

But hey, at least her step–douche is gone, and her life is back to an almost normal sense, right?

Wrong again, Emmy’s life will never again be normal…

With her Uncle Prick in town and her best friend acting as secretive as ever, Emmy finds new challenges to overcome — challenges that no seventeen–year–old girl should ever have to deal with. For one thing, what is up with her dream–liaison status anyway? What does it mean, really? And why does her little brother have to go through it too? And then there’s her mom. The lady is acting a tad bit odd, to put it nicely. After all these years, she finally wants to step up and be a parental figure? Heck no! Emmy’s definitely not copacetic with that idea.

But with the bad, there’s got to be some good out there for her somewhere, right?

Add in the wolves, witches, drama, and lots of kisses and you get Emmy the Extraordinaire, the girl with strawberry–colored hair, and a chip on her shoulder. She’s finally on her way to finding out what her life and her future both have in store for her, even if the road to getting there is nowhere near as easy as she hoped it would be. But Emmy is tough, and more than ready to take on life with her bare hands.

It’s just too bad she’s madly, desperately, insanely in love with a boy who insists on making her life both a miserable hell and utter perfection at the same time.

Excerpt:

Pressure, fire, wetness, tongues — single words were all I could think as our mouths battled. God, I’d never been kissed like this before. Ever, and if we stopped, I’d die a happy woman from his lips touching mine alone. He tugged his hand into the back of my hair, pulling my chin upwards, yanking me towards him. I clawed at his shirt, ready to rip it from his massive body. I pulled at his jacket first, lowering it over his shoulders until it fell to the floor. The buttons jingled against the tile, scattering over our feet. Damn, if he didn’t care about his signature black coat falling apart, then I had to wonder what else I could get away with.

Author Bio:

By age 5, Sasha Hibbs' favorite movie was Gone With the Wind. By age 12, she completed her 7th grade book report on the sequel, Scarlett. By 18, she met and married her very own Mr. Rhett Butler and as it turns out, she never had to worry about going back to Tara to win the love of her life back. Fortunately, he stuck with her.

With a love of all things paranormal, the ambiance of the South with its gigantic antebellum mansions and canopies of Spanish moss, and a love for her husband’s rich storytelling of blacksmiths and the mythology surrounding their origins, it wasn’t long until the world of her debut novel, Black Amaranth, was born.

When not working her day job as a nurse, you can find Sasha dreaming of her next beach trip, reading the latest YA novel, and drinking more white chocolate mocha than she should.

Sasha lives in mountainous West Virginia with her husband, Tim, and their two daughters, Aeliza and Ava. She is currently hard at work on book two in The Vulcan Legacies series.

I listened to these songs while writing Black Amaranth. They are close to my heart. I never title my chapters. If forced to, I would have to title each according to the song I listened to while writing it. Here is the list of soulful, heart wrenching, sometimes destructive tunes that helped me to write Black Amaranth.

Excerpt action...

Worried my reluctance to leave would irritate the king, I trudged to my escort but while walking away my skin prickled and back tensed.

I spun around.

Alastar nodded at a guard and in seconds, even more uniformed men surrounded Grant.

Conor was shoved to the side and almost lost his balance. He raked a hand through his hair and shook his head.

My heart sank and I raced back to Grant, slamming into the wall of guards. Clawing at the impenetrable barrier, I tried to find a crack to slip through.

A large guard jerked Grant’s hands behind his back and shackled them, an unnecessary step. He’d put up no resistance.

“What are you doing?” I screamed, not even caring I spoke to royalty. “You promised.”

Alastar stood tall and his voice boomed. “Grant, you are charged and convicted with kidnapping the future princess of Tir na nOg. You shall be taken to a cell at once. Since I am a fair man and promised no harm--” He glanced at me, a smug expression plastered on his face. “You will not be sentenced to death but instead to lifetime imprisonment.”

My world stopped.

A STIFF KISS tour invasion!! @AveryOlive takes over my blog! #LandingAnAgent #YAPNR #giveaway

*Waves* Hey everyone! Thanks for stopping by and checking out my guest post! And a huge thanks to Karen for being gracious enough to host me during my blog tour!

For today's guest post Karen asked me to share with y'all how I got my agent. Seems easy enough, I never did get around to writing that post for my own blog, so no time like the present, right?

So, how did I get my agent, in one word? Perseverance.

I've written and queried several novels to date (and hopeful I won't find myself in the position to have to go through the process again) I'd read all the information, joined a few online writing communities like Absolute Write (which is fabulous) so I knew what the process was like and what to expect ie: a lot of rejection.

You write a novel, you polish to the best of your ability, maybe you find other readers to read it and help you polish it further (beta's are your best friends, use them) draft a million different versions of a query letter until you feel like you've got it perfect. And then... then you start searching through the mounds of agents and start compiling a list of who you think might like you, your novel and whom might make a good fit. This is where you want to do your research ladies and gents, not all agents are created equal! Use sites like Query Tracker, Predator's and Editors, Absolute Writes extensive list of information on agents (and publisher's) and then... start sending them out.

My first book did well. I had a healthy amount of partial and full requests and of course, a pile of rejects. I'd exhausted my list but in the end, I didn't have any takers. I didn't think that was a bad thing. Sure, I was bummed out, but I also knew if getting an agent and getting published was easy, well... then, I was probably doing something wrong based on all I'd learned about the industry.

I wrote more books and queried them.

It became apparent rather quickly that I was going to be able to hold the title of So Close But Not Quite. I was the queen at getting amazing rejections. I mean, seriously, they'd say things like... You're writing is fantastic but just not for us or you create a wonderful scene and tell an amazing story but it's just not for us. I had one agent tell me there was nothing wrong with my book. It was awesome. She just didn't think she could sell it based on her personal tastes. I'd also get feedback too. The few times the novel didn't quite hit the mark, they'd say it was because of this... Most of the times it was something I could fix, other times I was left scratching my head. My friend would curse me, he'd say, God, I wish I got rejections like that! Because they were never bad. I swear. Sure, I got the occasional form letter that you received mere moments after sending the query off (and left wondering if the agent or whomever even took the time to read it) and to be honest I still get the occasional reject that got lost in the slush pile for a novel I wrote years ago. But I tended to have a higher request rate than rejection rate...

But I still hadn't landed myself an agent. I was getting angry. I hated all these good rejections. I hated knowing that most of the time the reject was based on personal taste and not because I sucked. I almost would have preferred an you suck rejection. I also continued to collect agents willing to read my next work. Often times at the bottom of the very nice personalized rejection (I was actually beginning to hate personalized rejections) there'd be an extra note: please, if you find yourself still looking for an agent with your next project, consider me in the future. Which by the way is a huge compliment.

By the third (or was it fourth or fifth?) book I had a list of about 15 agents willing to read anything I sent them.

I'm not going to lie, it actually became a NEED. I NEEDED an agent. I NEEDED to prove to myself that I could get one. You know, you want what you can't seem to have even more... That's how I felt.

I wrote a new novel, I sent it out to the list of 15 or so agents still willing to see anything new I had written and added a few more to the list.

This novel also performed well... I was still keeping my title and being the queen of amazing rejections.

I'd gotten a letter from an agent asking for a full. I wrote her my reply, saying that I was thrilled to hear that she'd like to read more (she'd read the partial first) that she could find the full attached and as per common courtesy I let her know that other's were considering the manuscript. She sent a reply back saying that she preferred to read fulls on an exclusive basis (not all together uncommon) but I wanted her to read my novel. Really, really bad. I came up with a compromise. If she'd read my manuscript, I wouldn't send out any more queries and I wouldn't make any decisions about the novel until she had a chance to read it and get back to me. I may have been really, really nice and did a little butt kissing. She agreed.

It didn't take long to add a few more nice rejections to my pile and it didn't take long for the agent I really wanted to review the novel. She was polite, she was honest and she had a request. A revise and resubmit.

I wasn't a stranger to the revise and resubmit. To be honest, I hated those worse than I hated getting a rejection. Because here you go, the agent sees some serious potential, takes the time to write out extensive notes on how to make the novel better(and hopefully impress them further) but the catch is--you can do all that work and still get a rejection. Being given a second chance and the realization that you still couldn't do the novel justice and find yourself with a rejection is the worst feeling in the world!

I got a rejection.

I'd spent a few months working on the novel, the revisions and I couldn't seal the deal. But on the plus side, I got another one of those fabulous personalized rejections with a note... Please send me any further work you might have in the future. So, it wasn't a complete waste. She still liked me enough to ask to see further work, again.

I wrote another new novel. I sent that out to all the agents still willing to look at my work, and added a few more agents to the list.

The agent who'd asked for a revision, the one I'd blown, loved the premise of my new book and wished to read the manuscript. She'd said she was excited, remembered me and my previous book... I sent her the manuscript right away. I really, really wanted this agent. And I really, really didn't want a rejection.

What I got... Another revise and resubmit.

I was DYING. Literally DYING. The pressure was immeasurable. How could I possibly revise and resubmit another novel for this agent, I mean, most agents don't even bother with R&R's. Most agents just reject. This agent didn't request R&R's like.. ever. It was actually a big deal. And she'd given me two R&R's... probably almost unheard of... And I was seriously stepping out on a ledge, because what if I blew the second chance?

I worked really hard, spent a great deal of time with the edits. I wanted this agent. I NEEDED this agent.

From the moment I pressed send on those revisions, I literally felt like I was going to be sick. I pretty much felt sick for the couple weeks it took for her to get back to me. Then I felt sick because for once it wasn't a rejection.

I was left thinking... OH MY GOD, DO I SERIOUSLY HAVE AN AGENT???

I don't think it really sunk in until I got the contract in the mail, but then I didn't even bother getting excited about it, I still felt it was all this big dream... I only truly felt super duper excited, confident that I'd finally secured myself an agent, and did a happy dance when I got the signed by my agent contract back in the mail. That's when it truly felt real!

So, what can you take away from this? Perseverance. IF you really, really want an agent and you're sure that's the direction you want to go in, don't give up. Rejections hurt. They suck. But as they say, you only need one yes.

But honestly, don't give up. Pay attention to your feedback, keep a list of the agents who say they want to see more of your work (they don't just say that for fun, trust me) and keep at it. Just because one novel doesn't get you that agent, doesn't mean you never will. Just persevere.

Granted, now that I have an agent, the stress doesn't stop... now we actually have to sell the manuscript to a publisher! And hey, wouldn't you know it, me and my agent got our first publisher reject the other day. It was a super nice, personalized rejection raving about my writing, but that it wasn't right for them, but to send along my next manuscript. *Scream*

It appears I haven't yet relinquished my crown and title of So Close But Not Quite.

Book talk with @MarleneRelja! A Twitter based book club via @IgnitedInk! #PNR #SF #NA #YA

Helloooooo, my pretties! I'm thrilled to have my lovely and talented friend Marlene Relja visiting my blog today. When she told me about her idea for a Twitter book club, I was all: OMG, that's awesome!

The tweets are all about the love of reading. There are no reviews, buy links or advertising. The concept is purely book talk. I'm so excited to watch her concept grow :) Now, I shall let Marlene tell you more...

Hi Karen and all her blog readers!

My name is Marlene Relja and I’m an avid reader and writer of all things paranormal, sci-fi, fantasy and just plain good romance.

Romance books that thrill or unnerve or entice. Book boyfriends/girlfriends. Books you want to hug because they just changed your life.

If you know what I'm talking about, if you've ever experienced any of these, then you, my friend, are a fellow Inker. Welcome to the club!

I recently created @IgnitedInk as a place for readers to share their shouts of delight/awe/anger over those impossibly hot heroes/heroines.

To share that moment in a story that ignites every part of your soul to the point where you wish you could live in the book.

IgnitedInk is a Twitter based book club with no schedules so fellow Inkers can read and discuss the books at their own pace.

And since it’s on Twitter, the discussions are to the point, easily-accessible, and never-ending. We can all chat from anywhere!

@IgnitedInk chats use specific hashtags(#) so fellow readers can follow and participate in the discussions of books they have/are read/reading.

And we're adding new books and discussions all the time. Like Gena Showalter's Alice in Zombieland or Jeaniene Frost's, Twice Tempted.

And of course Karen Y. Bynum's, Witch Way to Turn. Because who can resist the raw intensity of Orin or the comforting strength of Myles!

So don't worry if you're the type who reads books in 24hrs or in 720hrs or even years after a debut. IgnitedInk's chats are always open.

If you're interested in participating and to find current discussions, come by my site for more instructions (here).

Requests and suggestions for the next book to be discussed are always welcome, even if you're in the middle of reading it.

A big thanks to Karen for letting me guest post on her blog!

Oh and just for fun, can anyone guess how I structured this blog post? Hint: think of the essence of Twitter. Answer here with a comment or to @IgnitedInk.

And then come join the discussions and bring your friends because we'd love to have you.

Thousands of miles away from her former home in Brazil, she now resides in Connecticut and spends her days writing about kick-ass heroines and the heroes who drive them crazy.

DESTINY GIFT Excerpt:

I heard a heavy sigh and turned toward it. It was Victor. He was leaving the elevator down the hall and coming toward his grandma’s room. He had seen me and didn’t seem happy about it.

He wore faded jeans, a T-shirt, and a thin jacket. Too casual. I shook my head. The fact that my dream Victor and this real Victor were exactly the same physically, while their clothing styles and posture were the opposite of each other still boggled my mind.

He came to a stop before me. “You again.” There was disdain in his tone. I cringed.

“How are you?” I managed to ask and immediately felt silly. I had planted myself here in this hallway for over an hour waiting for him, and when he finally arrived, I didn’t know what to say. Though I really did want to know how he was. The last time I had seen him in the flesh, he’d been jerking on the floor of the hospital’s garage, in pain. “What was that … ah … before …?” I trailed off, hoping he would understand what I was referring to.

He shrugged, his sea-green eyes still staring at me with suspicion. “I don’t know. By the way, how do you know my name?”

I twirled a lock of my hair around my index finger as I considered my answer. I wanted to answer him. I wanted to be honest, but he would never believe me.

As if my answer would pop out of the walls, I scanned the hallway.

At the end of the corridor, a nurse left a room and entered another.

“The nurse,” I almost shouted, hoping he wouldn’t notice my sudden lie. I avoided his inquisitive eyes. “I heard a nurse calling you earlier that day.”

His deadpan expression hid his thoughts and didn’t let me know if he was buying it or not.

“What did you do to me last night?” he asked, crossing his arms. God, I hated how his voice and his posture were so guarded and mistrustful. I wasn’t used to it.

“What do you mean?”

“When you touched me, the shock and the pain went away. How did you do that?”

“I don’t know.” This time I wasn’t lying. I really didn’t know. He frowned, clearly still suspicious. “Seriously, I have no idea.”

His shoulders stiffened. “What are you doing here? What do you want?”

My eyes widened as I retreated a few steps, trying to avoid his toxic tone.

Yes, he looked like my Victor—the same voice, the same hair, the same face, the same mouth that had offered me smiles that had rendered me breathless many, many times. I wanted to touch him, to embrace him, to tell him everything was going to be okay. Maybe if I touched him, he would remember me and he would want to touch me too.

I came closer to him, looking deeply into those wary green eyes, my fingers itching to stroke his skin, to feel it smoldering under my caress. But I didn’t. He was like my Victor, but he wasn’t my Victor. The Victor from my visions would never speak to me like this. He would never snap at me. No, no. My Victor loved my company, loved to hear me sing, loved to embrace me and inhale my scent.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice croaking under the heavy pressure inside my chest.

Then, I walked away.

Hello, my darlings! So excited to participate in my dear friend Heather Van Fleet's cover reveal day!

Title: Resisting Fate
Genre: Young Adult Paranormal Romance
Release Day: June 14th 2013
Publisher: Sunshine Press

 Blurb:

Seventeen-year-old Emmy O’Connell is the epitome of a hot mess.

Her boyfriend’s been shipped out of town to some boarding school four states away. Her step douche is constantly drunk and badgering her. And then there’s her good-ole-mom… The lady is nothing more than a miserable shell of a woman. She’s turned off all of her feelings and her ability to be a good mother as well, leaving poor Emmy and her four year old brother Jamie to suffer. Life couldn’t get much worse, right?

Enter the elusive, cocky, and oh-so-broody Jack Hartman…

The jerk cousin of her boyfriend becomes Emmy’s worst nightmare…times ten. He’s cruel. He’s insensitive. But he also has this strange little ability over her – he makes her weak in the knees with the single touch of his hand. But no matter how miserable or amazing Jack makes her feel, Emmy can’t seem to deny him, especially when he takes on the role of her protector –her pseudo-knight in a black leather coat. A knight who also just so happens to ride in on his black Harley, instead of a white horse…

And to make a bad situation worse…

Werewolves and teens shouldn’t mix! But what can Emmy do when she finds herself thrown head first into the center of it all? Can she handle the supernatural mess her life rapidly becomes or will she fight against the inevitable fate her heart desires?

That day at the tree house, had I really seen…

Taking a deep breath, he let it out slowly and dragged a hand through his thick golden hair. “The name unicorn is how we’ve kept our true nature and work a secret.”

“How?”

“Most people think sunshine and rainbows when they hear unicorn. But monoceri are hunters of the shadow, slayers of darkness and guardians of witches.” He was babbling on like he didn’t have something protruding out of his head.

Get it together, Greta.

Tune in next week for more Greta and Pax!!

Thanks again for stopping by! Your support and feedback is greatly appreciated!

Excerpt from
Destiny Gift :

Author Interview: @CecilyWhite and her Release Day for #ProphecyGirl!!!

Hello, my darlings! Help me in welcoming my special guest on
her Release Day... Cecily White!!! *applause* Let's jump write in! Oops, pun! ;)

Title: Prophecy Girl
Author: Cecily White
Publisher: Entangled Publishing, LLC
Series: Angel Academy
Release date: Today!! 2 April 2013
Genre: Young Adult

Karen: Welcome, Cecily! It’s great to have you here today! *virtual handshake*

Cecily: Stunning to be here! Thanks!

Karen: Let the fun begin! Can you tell my readers what’s the weirdest thing you like to eat?

Cecily: Well, I make a lot of soups. We have a crock pot, so I’ll occasionally just root around the pantry, find some bizarre stuff, and throw it in. Like those mushrooms that look like seaweed. Or the gross dogfood-looking nuggets that are actually textured vegetable protein. We’re mostly vegetarian, so cooking is always an adventure.

Karen: Sounds exciting to me! Speaking of adventures...tell us about your novel, Prophecy Girl, what’s it about?

Cecily: I hate this question because I never know whether to give plot, theme, character arcs, or what. I guess I’ll say it’s about a well-intentioned girl, Amelie Bennett, who despite being a total screw-up, manages to get blamed for the downfall of an entire angelblood race. Thematically, it’s about determinism and free-will. Characterologically, it’s about recognizing that there are demonic sides to every angel, and angelic edges to every demon. But the gift of being human is that we get to choose who we are, every day.

Is that vaguely prophetic enough for you? ;-)

Karen: Totally. Love that answer! And I, too, am not a huge fan of that question, but I'm evil so I had to ask! :P How did you come up with the title?

Cecily: Oh, that’s easy. My daughter picked it. In the book there’s a prophecy that says Amelie’s destined to kill everyone she loves. The problem is, it’s 100% accurate… but you know how tricky prophecies are.

Karen: They can be tricky, for sure...only slightly more tricky than negotiating book deals. ;) What was the first thing you thought/did when you received the offer?

Cecily: Besides pass out? LOL! I actually got the offer in the midst of a rousing game of laser-tag with my six-year-old son. So, the first thing I did was shoot some little punk-kid who was trying to take down my boy. Then I ate a pizza.

Karen: LOL That's awesome! A contract, laser-tag and pizza...For the win! Will there be a sequel to Prophecy Girl?

Cecily: Already in the works! Angel Academy II will be available next year from Entangled Publishing. (Which, by the way, is the most stunningly awesome, supportive, fantabuloriffic group of publishing professionals I’ve ever met. EVER! And my editor, Liz Pelletier, is a bloody genius. No kidding! Like, smarter than Joss Whedon and Stephen Hawking put together.)

Karen: They really are a fantastic publisher! And, WOW, smarter than Joss and Stephen...Super impressive! Rock on, Liz! (Eep! Random question alert!!) Be honest, what’s the longest you’ve gone without washing your hair?

Cecily: Hmm, I took a camping trip to the boundary waters of Canada once, so lemme see… 6 days. Yup, 6 days! But I did go swimming every day, so that sort of counts, right? RIGHT?

Karen: Um, since there was no shampoo involved, I'll count it! Back to the hard-hitting questions…What new projects are you working on?

Cecily: Besides Angel Academy II? Well, I’m working on a middle grade--which I LOVE--called GhostRunners, written for the express purpose of giving my daughter a shot at being on the cover of a book. She ordered me to write something with a protagonist her age who looks like her. I tried to tell her that’s not really how it works, but she insisted.

Karen: Too cute! I look forward to hearing more about GhostRunners. What were some of the biggest challenges to getting published?

Cecily: Oh, low self-esteem was by far the biggest challenge. I didn’t query too many folks because I didn’t think I had a shot. Then I entered the Golden Heart, and one of the judges was so impressed, she contacted me and basically bullied me into querying. C.J. Redwine… LOVE HER!!! Then I got a kick-ass agent a few weeks later (Pam vanHylckama Vlieg), then a few weeks after that had a contract.

Karen: That's so awesome!! Ooh, totally agree, C.J. is a phenomenal lady. I took her query/synopsis classes online. So great! Now let’s delve a little deeper. Shall we? *winks* When did the desire to write consume you?

Cecily: I believe it was a Wednesday. Maybe a Thursday… no Wednesday. Whatever. I used to make up stories for my kids at bedtime, and one day (mid-week) my daughter said, “Mommy, you should write this down.” Ever since she’s been helping me plot and giggling at the right parts and telling which boys are cute and which are tools. That was almost four years ago.

Karen: LOL Love it! Do you have a day job? Or do you write full-time?

Author photo: Cecily White

Cecily: I have a zillion part-time jobs. I’m a psychologist by training, an adjunct university professor when convenient, a health-room volunteer at the kids’ elementary school when needed, a part-time financial aid coordinator at Missouri State University, and a full-time mom whenever the kiddos are willing to interact with me. Which is almost all the time because, yes, I AM that cool… For now, at least. :)

Karen: You, busy, busy, lady, you!! So, tell me, when you have a chance to put fingers to keys... Who controls your characters? You or them?

Cecily: I wish I did. But they do. They run amok. They argue while I’m trying to sleep. They make inter-dimensional messes while I make dinner. It’s chaotic. But you know, I don’t mind a bit. Because the worst thing in the world is when they stop talking to me. So I try my best to value them while they’re there, and take them into the world with me whenever possible.

Karen: That's all you can do! ;) Where do you write? (office, coffee shop, train, etc.)

Cecily: Office, coffee shop… no train. I would if we had a train. Airplane, occasionally.

Karen: How cool would it be to write on a train?! Just sayin'. How long does it take you to write a book?

Cecily: The quickest was ten weeks. The longest was seven months. But I’m ALWAYS revising. Always. I’ll see something in life that reminds me of a scene I wrote two months ago, so I’ll go back and mess with it. I have a whole bunch of manuscripts that are “almost ready” which my agent may kill me over. But I hate to show anything to anyone before I’m proud of it, you know?

Karen: I totally do know! Okay, so prepare yourself, another random question has arrived. If you could have telepathy (that could be turned on/off) or invisibility, which would you choose? And why?

Cecily: Telepathy. It’s why I became a psychologist—to understand how people operate. They’re not as mysterious as you’d think. If you listen well, you’ll find that everyone makes sense… whether a florid psychotic, or an anti-rational sociopath. Everyone has a story, and every story has a flow. I like learning that flow of humanity. It’s what makes life interesting.

Karen: Very cool. Everyone has a story...I like that! Before we go, you must face the rapid fire round. Dun, dun, dun…

Coffee or tea? Coffee.
Chocolate: dark or milk? Dark. No, milk. No, dark. Well, crud!
Flats or heels? Running shoes.
Yes or no? HECK, YES!!!
Star Wars or Star Trek? J.J. Abrams’ STAR TREK. (Chris Pine… yum!)
Ice: crushed or cubed? Dude, cubed!!!
Italian or French (food, not men)? Italian… I think.
Panster or plotter? Plotser.
Paper or plastic? Fabric. We bring our own.
Vampires or werewolves? Vampires (They smell better.)
Pencil or pen? Pencil.
Firemen or cops? Firemen.
Mountains or beach? Ooo, mountains! With Chris Pine! Dressed as an intergalactic fireman!

Karen: Thank you so much for stopping by, Cecily! Feel free to visit any time!

Cecily: I plan to lurk here often, thanks. GROUP HUG!!!
