Succubi in spaaaaaaaace! She can kill with a kiss... A guest post by @pippajaygreen #scifi

Tethered blurb:
She can kill with a kiss. But can assassin Tyree also heal one man’s grief, and bring peace to a galaxy threatened by war?

For Tyree of the Su, being an assassin isn’t simply something she was trained for. It’s the sole reason for her existence. A genetically enhanced clone—one of many in Refuge—she’s about to learn her secluded lifestyle, and that of all her kind, is under threat by a race capable of neutralizing their special talents to leave them defenseless.

For Zander D’joren, being a diplomat has not only cost him his appearance, but also the love of his life. Scarred, grieving, he must nonetheless continue in his role as co-delegate to the fearsome Tier-vane or risk a conflict that could only end one way.

Now both of them need to keep each other alive and maintain a perilous deception long enough to renegotiate the treaty with the Tier-vane, or throw their people into a war that could wipe out Terrans and Inc-Su alike. But there’s more at stake than humanity, whether true or modified. Can the love growing between them save them both? Or merely hasten their destruction?

Somewhere along the way a touch of romance crept into her work and refused to leave. In between torturing her plethora of characters, she spends the odd free moment playing guitar very badly, punishing herself with freestyle street dance, and studying the Dark Side of the Force. Although happily settled in the historical town of Colchester in the UK with her husband of 21 years and three little monsters, she continues to roam the rest of the Universe in her head.

Where the idea began...

Succubi in spaaaaaaace!

It might seem an odd idea, and I can't help but say it in the same comedy way as Pigs in Space from The Muppet Show. But essentially that's what the story boils down to. It began as a random discussion on Twitter with a couple of author friends over how dragons and elves seemed to be hogging the limelight as mythological beings went, and it was about time the others got a look-in. I started with a vague idea of writing about a succubus, since I'd never seen it used in anything I'd read, but being a scifi author I wanted to put a futuristic or SF twist on it. And then Christmas Day, of all the days, muse had an epiphany and Tethered began.

It started off under the working title of Succubi, and the original opening scene was a stark revelation of her abilities (that particular scene later got moved further into the book). As the story developed and I researched the whole myth of succubi further, my seductive demon became a genetically enhanced clone with special abilities, who assassinates her targets in a way true to her supernatural origins.

From the Wikipedia entry – "A succubus is a female demon or supernatural entity ... that appears in dreams and takes the form of a human woman in order to seduce men, usually through sexual activity ... Religious traditions hold that repeated sexual activity with a succubus may result in the deterioration of health or even death.

In modern fictional representations, a succubus ... is often depicted as a highly attractive seductress ..."

While Tyree's human co-delegate is somewhat uncomfortable with her methods, she's quick to assure him that at least her victims "die in ecstasy", though he doesn't find that much consolation. She feeds on their auras—an energy field given off by all living things (excuse the Star Wars reference, lol)—but especially the psychic release resulting from sex. It's considered the bonus of her profession. She could do it simply by touch, but as she points out someone in the throes of passion is far less likely to struggle or protest, and makes it far safer and easier for her to do the deed. Her genetic enhancements mean she's stronger and faster than the average human, can use her pheromones to seduce and enthrall not only human males but also those of the fearsome Tier-vane featured in the story. Add to that her ability to ghost through solid objects by adjusting her molecular density, and Tyree is as beautiful, deadly and irresistible as her supernatural origin.

But not all succubi are malevolent, and while Tyree might be a killer, she still has a conscience. And, much to her surprise, a heart...

Cover reveal day for REBOOT by @pippajaygreen!!! Welcome to immortality in utopia! #SciFi

Blurb:

“Welcome to immortality in utopia!”

From the moment Damien signed up for a perfect life with ReGen Inc., he didn’t ask any questions. He didn’t want or need to know. But after he’s rebooted this time, there are gaps in his memory he can’t ignore, and people he no longer recognizes are accusing him of betrayal. When someone dies, he’s determined to go looking for answers…but sometimes it really is better to forget.

Website for more info!

Excerpt:

Someone pounded on his door. Damien jerked out of bed, heart hammering. Had ReGen realized their mistake? Were they coming to wipe the rest of his memories?

Reality swept over him as the last of the fog of sleep faded. He wasn’t a hermit. People often came to visit, though they weren’t usually so loud about it.

He pushed off the bed, a slight stiffness making his movements awkward. He clipped the doorframe on his way out and cursed at the spike of pain in his shoulder. Clumsy! The last thing he wanted to do was damage this new body so soon after a reboot.

“Hold on!” he yelled at the unknown visitor hell-bent on punching a hole through his front door.

He was still clothed from last night, but he paused in front of his mirror to drag his fingers through the tufts of his dark hair. “Yes, all right. I’m coming!” He tugged his shirt straight. “Open.”

A dark-haired woman stumbled through the door and fell against him. “Damien!”

His arms circled her by instinct, but the impact sent him staggering back a step or two. “Whoa!”

She gazed up at him, her hazel eyes red-rimmed as if from crying, and her pretty face screwed into wrinkles. “I was so worried. When you didn’t come over last night…”

“Last night? Come where?” Her body pressed into his was causing all kinds of interesting reactions, but confusion overrode them. “Who are you?”

“Who?” Her eyes widened, and she jerked out of his embrace. “What’s wrong with you?”

Fear swamped him again, a cold that chilled him to the bone. “Diagnostics says I’m fine.”

“Diagnostics?” She backed away, as if he’d morphed into the worst kind of monster, then grabbed his right hand. Damien flinched as she rubbed her thumb hard over the back of his hand. Over the place where his scar had been. “Oh…” She dropped his hand, her head still bowed. “Oh, Damien.”

“What?”

Her gaze knifed through him, accusing. “You’ve been rebooted.”

Character Interview with Jinx from GETHYON by @pippajaygreen #YA #SFR

Darlings!! Helloooooo!!! I'm sooo excited to have Jinx from Gethyon on my blog today! Pippa Jay has created quite the plucky character! Lemme share a little about her latest release and then Jinx interview time!! :D

A YA Science Fiction Novel

Available now from Champagne Books!

His father died. His mother abandoned him. In the depths of space, darkness seeks him.

Abandoned by his mother after his father’s death, Gethyon Rees feels at odds with his world and longs to travel the stars. But discovering he has the power to do so leaves him scarred for life. Worse, it alerts the Siah-dhu—a dark entity that seeks his kind for their special abilities—to his existence, and sets a bounty hunter on his trail.

When those same alien powers lead Gethyon to commit a terrible act, they also aid his escape. Marooned on the sea-world of Ulto Marinos, Gethyon and his twin sister must work off their debt to the Seagrafter captain who rescued them while Gethyon puzzles over their transportation. How has he done this? And what more is he capable of?

Before he can learn any answers, the Wardens arrive to arrest him for his crime. Can his powers save him now? And where will he end up next?

Character interview – Jinx

Meet Jinx. She’s small, she’s sassy, and she’ll rip your powers right out of you in a heartbeat…

Name?

Jinxuri of the Chei-ha’veen. But you can call me Jinx…if you live long enough to get friendly.

Age?

Older than you’d imagine. Not old enough to worry about retiring just yet.

Origin?

Oh, here there and everywhere.

But your planet of birth—

Is none of your damn business.

Um, okay. Profession?

Bounty hunter.

How would you describe yourself?

Small, but deadly. Don’t ever make the mistake of underestimating me if you value your life. My skin is silver with beautiful black markings that are unique to each Chei-har—

What’s a Chei-har?

*glares* Full of questions, aren’t you? A Chei-har is a hunting group, what you might call a clan I guess. But I’m on my own now… *Jinx gazes off into the distance*

Sorry, you were describing yourself?

What? Oh, yeah. I have blood red hair that spikes up when I go into hunting mode, and my eyes go completely black – it increases the range of my vision. I’m stronger than a human, but light on my feet. No one gets away from me once I’ve marked them.

Well, Gethyon seemed to do okay…

*Jinx hisses, her red hair rising like hackles* He got lucky! It won’t happen again.

*clears throat* Shall we carry on?

*Jinx waves a hand* Whatever…

History?

Heh, like I’m going to tell you anything about that! All I’ll say is I move around. A lot.

So you’re well travelled?

*Jinx chuckles* Yeah, you could say that.

Hopes for the future?

To get my hands on a Traveler and deliver them up to the Siah-dhu. Then maybe I can finally get them off my back.

Anything else you’d like to share?

*Jinx grins and shakes her head before walking away* Watch your backs. You haven’t seen the last of me…
