Time once again for: dun, dun, dun... Midweek Mayhem 6/27/12

Working it out…
  • The trailer for Witch Way to Turn is done! Squee! Currently in the process of getting it linked to every website and social media known to man! teeheehee :) Tune back in tomorrow for the BIG REVEAL. So excited!
  • Last Sunday (6/24/12) I participated in Six Sentence Sunday...a really cool site that helps to get the word out about non-published and published writers. The comments and feedback were fantastic and much appreciated!! Check it out: SSS.
Hearing voices…
  • Some crazy things are happening in Rhodhiss, NC for Breena, Myles and Orin! And something very terrible is getting ready to happen to someone Breena loves more than life itself! *gasps*
  • Last Saturday and Sunday were such productive days... I was able to exceed my word count both days! Clearing about 2500. My daily goal is 1,000 words. I don't always hit it, but I reach for it anyway!
Waiting game…
  • Tom Petty had it so right: "waiting IS the hardest part." My demon-slaying unicorn manuscript (Running from Shadows) is currently being read by an amazing agent. *crosses fingers…and toes*
  • The lovely agent has had the manuscript (MS) for 4 weeks on 6/29/12. I'm hoping that's a good sign! Will keep you posted.
  • In the meantime, I am beginning to query other agencies for Running from Shadows and will have two pitch sessions at RWA Nationals in July.
  • Side note - a pitch session is like American Idol for writing meets Speed Dating. It's fast-paced, intense, nerve-wrecking and FUN. (Okay, so fun might be a stretch...but it's something I am getting better at. lol)
Reading update…
  • 58% into Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse #12) by Charlaine Harris
  • 27% into Rapture (Fallen #4) by Lauren Kate
  • 21% into Quitter: Turning Your Job into a Dream and Your Dream into a Job by Jon Acuff
 Getting personal...
  • Am planning a surprise 29th birthday getaway for the hubs (my husband)! I'm practically kidnapping him. Bwahaha He has no idea where we are going or what we are doing. I'm just gonna tell him to get in the car and I'm driving!
  • Am beginning to like Swiss cheese. I didn't for the longest time. Then had a club sandwich the other day and didn't know it had Swiss on it. Well, it was delicious! Sooo, there ya go! Weren't you just dying to know that? ;)
Giving back...
  • Recently I've gotten emails about the writing/editing process, social media usage and self-promotion. I'd love to share experience, challenges and offer any advice.
  • Would like to reach out to you... Is there anything in particular that would be a helpful blog post? Ideas? Hit me up in the comments section or on the Contact Me tab with your suggestions.
That’s all for now y’all!

Happy Writing!

Six Sentence Sunday 6/24/12: Such a tease! Witch Way to Turn…

Hooray for Six Sentence Sunday!

Thank you for stopping by. I'm excited to be participating with such a fantastic group of writers!

Today I'm sharing from my soon-to-be released young adult paranormal romance Witch Way to Turn...

In this snippet Breena Cross is fighting her inner relationship demons. She wants more than just friendship, but Myles Young--her vampire coworker at the pharmacy--keeps stepping on the brakes. Dammit! But really what does she expect? Sudden declarations? So not his style…

When he’d started at the pharm, it’d taken him three days to stop looking away when she caught him staring at her. Then another two days to actually talk to her; granted, Breena hadn’t made a move either, but shouldn’t the guy act first?

His hot and cold routine was driving her insane, and not in a good way. Sometimes she wished she liked a guy who knew exactly what he wanted. A guy who wasn’t afraid to take a chance. A guy who’d risk everything to be with her.

Will Myles risk everything? Has he already? Tune in next week to get a taste for the vampire convict and his deep, dark brooding secrets :)

Thanks again for stopping by! Your support and feedback is greatly appreciated! Get a sneak peek for more authors at SSS.

Happy reading!

Midweek Mayhem…

In an effort to be a better goal-setter (something I gotta constantly work at) and be more consistent with my blog postings, I’m starting something I like to call dun, dun, dun…
Midweek Mayhem. And maybe at some point my chaos—uh, life—will become slightly more organized. A girl can dream, right?

Working it out…

  • The trailer for Witch Way to Turn is in the works! Squee! We are in the process of picking out music, art and hope to have it ready to roll a month before WWTT’s release date of August 6!
  • Starting this Sunday (June 24) I’ll be participating in Six Sentence Sunday. This is a really cool site that helps to get the word out about non-published and published writers. Check it out: SSS. More information on Sunday! Stay tuned :)
Hearing voices…
  • Breena, Myles and Orin are talking to me…they don’t want the adventure to end. So I hear and obey! WWTT2 is currently in the work-in-progress stage. I’m a little over 20k words in. The goal is to have the first draft complete (or very close to the end) before I leave for RWA Nationals on July 23.
Waiting game…
  • Tom Petty had it so right: "waiting IS the hardest part." My demon-slaying unicorn manuscript (Running from Shadows) is currently being read by an amazing agent. *crosses fingers…and toes*
Reading update…
  • 51% into Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse #12) by Charlaine Harris
  • 21% into Quitter: Turning Your Job into a Dream and Your Dream into a Job by Jon Acuff
  • 12% into Rapture (Fallen #4) by Lauren Kate
That’s all for now y’all!

So excited… Here it is! Excerpt from Witch Way to Turn…

Breena closed her eyes and let the energy of the rushing water mix with the electricity of Orin’s embrace. They watched the water burst over the dam and listened to its hypnotic roar until the sun began to dip below the treetops. An owl hooted in the distance, and the mosquitoes swarmed closer. She noticed with envy that the little blood-suckers didn’t go after Orin. They were eating her alive. She swatted at a couple and finally smashed one on her arm.

He stood and offered his hand. “Time to go?”

She shooed away the pesky insects. “Uh, yeah.” Hand in hand, they headed back to Orin’s car.

At the sedan, he opened the passenger door for Breena to get in and closed it behind her.

Now you see him, now you don’t. Orin disappeared from outside her door and reappeared in the driver’s seat.

Holy hell.

Breena gripped the door handle. This was really real. This guy wasn’t just some obscenely-cute-but-a-touch eccentric hottie. He was actually, in fact, a super-fucking-natural creature. And that meant, in all likelihood…

So am I.

Her breath came quick and heavy, on the verge of hyperventilation.

Orin reached into his pocket and pulled out the key. “What?” He stuck it in the ignition and waited, staring at her.

She gestured at the door. “You just…you just… You know. Poof.”

He looked at the door then back at Breena. “I don’t get it. I told you what I was--”

“Did you think I believed you?”

Silence hung between them, deflating what little air Breena had left in her mental balloon. “Well, I did think you were awfully calm about it,” he said.

“I thought you were just one of those crazy-in-a-totally-harmless-and-sort-of-adorable-way guys. You know, like those dungeons and dragons people and shit.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Okay.” She took a deep breath. Another. “Okay. It’s okay. It is okay.”

“Is it?”

“Shush. Just…give me a minute here.”

She’d seen him--with her own two eyes--appear next to her in the car. She could explain away the weird feeling of sameness he gave her, his brute strength, and even the near-attack on campus. But this…this… “How’d you do that?”

“Vamps have their speed and preternaturals their apparition. I don’t know about witches. I suppose they use brooms.” He smirked.

“Vampires?”

“You know, fangs and blood-lust. Creatures of the night. I vant to suck your--”

“Har har, you’re hilarious.” She gave him the stink eye. “I know what a vampire is. I hadn’t thought about them being fast.”

Or real, she added mentally.

Until her rescue on campus, she hadn’t had a reason to think about the supernatural community at all. Hadn’t even known there was such a thing. Why the hell would she? She’d been blissfully unaware. Now she not only had to deal with having a serious itch for a member of said community, it seemed she was part of this whole mess too.

She suddenly remembered Orin telling her about her half-preternatural, half-witch status. “So can I do the apparition thing?”

“I don’t know. There are so few halflings left.”

“Left?”

“Yes.”

“Where’d they go?”

“They’re dead.”

“Dead?” She gulped. “Why?”

“Various reasons. If you think about it, the supernatural population isn’t much different from humanity when it comes to prejudice and social status.”

“So halflings are like supernatural freaks?”

Boy, I can’t win.
